Doris Katherine Whitlock Jennings, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013. She was born in Christiansburg, Va., one of 10 children born to Bernard and Kate Whitlock. Doris spent most of her life in Roanoke.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Jennings; brothers, Harry, Max, Charles, and W.B. Jr.; and sisters, Arlene Fritz and Louise Whitlock.
Surviving are her sons, Steven Allen Jennings and wife, Susan, of Lexington, Ky., and Bruce Edd Jennings and wife, Wendy, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Steven Hunter Jennings, Edwin Whitlock "Whit" Jennings, Samantha Page Jennings, Katherine Alexxis Jennings, Grant Allen Jennings, and Erin Michelle Jennings; and sisters, Gene Hart, of Richmond, Nancy Lindquist, of Maryland, and Helen Meredith, of Salem.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the special care provided during Doris' illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Wesley Lindquist. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. on Wednesday until service time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
