Michael J. Whitten, 59, of Valparaiso, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Porter Regional Hospital, Valparaiso.

He was born January 4, 1958, in Gary, IN, to Wesley and Leona (Guth) Whitten.

Michael was a truck driver for RCI Trucking Inc. for 13 years. He enjoyed collecting antiques, and the knowledge of history. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather.

Surviving are his former wife, Angela Whitten; significant other, Janet Bell of Portage; six children, Leah Whitten, Peach (Brooks) Willmon, Ashleigh Whitten, Kaila Whitten, Allyson Whitten, and Daniel Whitten; five siblings, Greg (Barb) and Kenny Whitten, Mona (John) Whitten-Gissler, Wesley Whitten and Kelly (Sonny) Huettner; eight grandchildren, Madyson, Austin, Jaden, Tyler, Savannah, Ethan, Hunter, and Phoenix; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Henry and Robert Whitten; one infant brother, Timmy Whitten; and one sister, Janet Hubbard.

A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 12 noon, Friday, June 23, 2017 at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 1505 E. Morthland Dr., Valparaiso with Pastor Craig Forwalter officiating.

Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Sunset Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
