Obituary for Theodore Maurice Griffith
Theodore Maurice “Ted” Griffith, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Halcyon House in Washington following an extended illness.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the West Chester United Methodist Church with Pastor Moody Colorado officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the West Chester United Methodist Church or Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Ted’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com

Ted was born, November 9, 1928, in Washington County the son of Clement and Mabel (Kleese) Griffith. He graduated from West Chester High School in 1947. Ted was united in marriage to Delores Krotz on June 28, 1953, at the West Chester United Methodist Church.

Ted was a veteran of the Korean War serving honorably in the United States Army. He spent most of his life in Washington County and farmed 53 years, with 47 years on a farm near Wellman, Iowa. He loved dancing, starting in their early married life with square dancing, and then regularly attended dances throughout Washington County and Eastern Iowa. He enjoyed music and sang in the West Chester United Methodist Church choir. Ted had ponies and horses for many years, and enjoyed wagon and sleigh rides with his children, grandchildren and many family and friends. He also loved playing cards, camping, and attending his children’s, grandchildren’s and extended family’s activities.

He is survived by five children: Dennis Griffith and wife Brenda of Iowa City, Iowa; Peggy Mason and husband Don of Saint Charles, Iowa; Jerry Griffith and wife Susan of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Scott Griffith and wife Ellen of Saint Charles, Missouri; and Neill Griffith and wife Mary Ann of Oswego, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by one sister, Patricia Dusenbery of Washington, Iowa; and brother, C.J. Griffith and wife Vivian of Washington, Iowa.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Delores in 2013; three brothers, Donald Griffith and wives Betty and Marge, Paul Griffith and wife Ada, and Jack Griffith; and brother-in-law, Harry Dusenbery.
