Herman Pouttu, 80, 4880 Highlawn Drive, Burnaby, died following a long illness. Mr. Pouttu went from Finland to the U.S. in 1896, joined the 45th U.S. Infantry in 1893 and fought in the Spanish-American War until he was discharged in 1901. . He came to Canada in 1902, going to Sointula, B.C., an upcoast Finnish community.; He retired in 1934, but remained at Sointula until he came to Vancouver In 1957.
He is survived by three sons, Michael and Alex at Sointula, and Otto In Delta; two daughters, Mrs. Lily Makl and Mrs. Martha Nemlander, both of Burnaby; six grandchildren in Canada, and other relatives In Finland and the U.S. Funeral was held Friday.
