Thelma J. Powers, age 86, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida was called home Sunday, March 30, 2014. Thelma was born in Agawam, Massachusetts on July 9, 1927, a daughter of the late William and Etta (Strong) Harrison and a graduate of Agawam High School. She lived in Massachusetts most of her life and worked at various jobs including Monarch Life Insurance Company, Ferrara Springs Co and Riverside Amusement Park. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, making ceramics, reading, gardening, and playing with the family’s pets and going on trips when they could, driving cross country and visiting Hawaii. Then she and her husband Neil retired and moved to Florida so they could enjoy the rest of their lives in the beautiful Florida sunshine.

She is preceded in death by one sister, Lillian McGuinness in 2004 and a brother, Richard Harrison in 2013.

Thelma is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Neil Powers of DeFuniak Springs, FL; son, Barney Powers of Easthampton, MA; daughter, Barbara Powers of Westfield, MA; four sisters, Louise Chambers of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Dorothy Boreck of Port Orange, FL, Marjorie Holzman and Judith Taylor both of Ormond Beach, FL; and three brothers, William Harrison of Marco Island, FL, Joseph Harrison of West Springfield, MA, and Charles Harrison of East Longmeadow, MA.

A celebration of Thelma's life will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at noon with Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
