Sister Mercia Thyken, OSB, a member of the community of Benedictine Sisters at St. Joseph, died May 4, at 9:30 am. She was 42 years of age, and had been a member of the community for 20 years, Born at Glencoe, Minnesota, Sister Mercia was received into the community on June 16, 1920. After, her novitiate, she held teaching positions at Wahpeton, Mandan, Long Prairie, Moorhead, Minneapolis, and Cold Spring. On May 6, a solemn Requiem was offered at the Convent chapel, by Rev. Elmer Eisenschenck OSB, chaplain at St. Benedict's convent, assisted by Rev. Alexius Jene, deacon; and Rev. Earl Schuh, sub-deacon. Present for the funeral were the following: Sister Lorenzo, OSB, of Rochester, a sister; her brothers, Al and family from Glencoe; William, of Chicago, and Joe, of Glencoe; Mrs. Ben Harpel; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Harpel; Mrs. Godfrey Donney; Miss Marie Davidson; Miss Barbara Wagner; Misses Barbara, Beatrice and Sylvia Donwen.
