Jerry Lamar Porter, 84 of Panama City, FL passed away on Father’s Day, June 18, 2017. He was born November 1, 1932 in Chipley, FL to Felton & Myrtle Porter.
He was preceded in death by his parents Felton & Myrtle Porter and one grandson, Benjamin Lee Keen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Camp Porter; three children, Terry (Sid) David, Beverly (Carl) Keen, and Larry Porter; seven grandchildren, Kristina Keen (Bobby Arnold), Jake (Brandie) Keen, Jenny Keen, Heather (Mike) Brewer, Holly (Jamie) Littlefield, Bailey Porter and Morgan Porter; ten great-grandchildren, Sydney & Kaden Brewer, Ty & Bryce Littlefield, Benjamin Kody Arnold, Jackson Otis Stewart, Klayton, Payton, Briley & Kinley Keen. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas (Flossie) Porter, Allen (Nancy) Porter and two sisters, Myra (Curtis) Saunders and Dorothy Brooks.
Jerry was employed by Southern Bell and then Bell South for 39 years before retiring to enjoy traveling in his motorhome with family and leading music at various churches in the Bay County area. He was an active member of City Church at Northside where he taught a Life Group on Sunday mornings. He was a member of the gospel quartet called Joy Tones for 25 plus years and enjoyed singing bass at every opportunity in multiple churches, reunions and other events. He loved music and enjoyed sharing his talent to encourage others.
The most important memory his family and those who knew him will have is his love for the Lord, his family and his church. He will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received 10-11 am Wednesday at City Church at Northside where funeral services will take place that morning at 11 am. Interment will take place 3 pm Wednesday at New Orange Baptist Church Cemetery in Chipley. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Music Ministry at City Church at Northside.
