CPO US NAVY, WORLD WAR II, KOREA

Como, Mississippi - Fern Joseph Barta, 88, retired Navy veteran, died Saturday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Misissippi in Oxford. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Moore Funeral Home in Sardis has charge. He was a Baptist and a World War II veteran. Mr. Barta, the husband of Jean Kootman Barta, also leaves a daughter, Linda Jo Yale of Como; a son, Eric Reid Barta of Gig Harbor, Wash., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I was researching the Palawan Massacre in World War II because one of my distant relatives was a survivor. Mr. Barta was also one of the 11 who survived!
