LONNIE R. BUUCK, 74, of Ossian, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family following complications from a spinal injury. Born Nov. 23, 1942, in Decatur, he was a son of the late Alfred and Elsie (Thieme) Buuck. He received a Bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University, his Master's degree from University of St. Francis, and later earned his Administrative License from IPFW. He spent his career in education working as a teacher at Churubusco Elementary, then as principal at Rockcreek Elementary and Ossian Elementary, and interim principal at both Zion Lutheran and St. John Emmanuel Lutheran Schools. He was a member at New Hope Lutheran Church, Ossian where he sang in the choir, served as head elder and president of the congregation, and was instrumental in gaining the accreditation needed for the New Hope Lutheran School Preschool. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Indiana State Teachers Association, and Indiana Association of School Principals. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, coaching, watching the Cubs as an avid fan, golfing, and spending time with his family. Surviving family include his wife, Margaret "Peg" Buuck; sons, Matthew and Andrew Buuck; siblings, Eugene "Gene" Buuck, Cheryl Bultemeyer, and Janice Buuck. He was also preceded in passing by his brother, Jerry Buuck. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at New Hope Lutheran Church, 8824 North State 1, Ossian, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017, and from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill St., Ossian. Burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian. Memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church or to the family for a legacy memorial in his name for the Ossian community.
