Mrs. Dana L. (Biggs) Johns, 61, wife of Carl A. Johns, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2010, in the St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Okla. following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 520 S. E. Osage, Bartlesville. Mr. Dennis Voth will be the officiant. Private family committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa, Okla. by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service. Mrs. Johns will lie in state in the Fitzgerald-Arnold Moore Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st, Tulsa, Okla. where the Johns family will greet friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010. Friends who wish will be received at The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence, 621 S. Johnstone, Bartlesville where there will also be a register to sign. Following the visitation on Monday evening, the casket will be removed to Bartlesville for services. Dana Lynn (Biggs) Johns was born on February 1, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Franklin Alfred Biggs and Bonita (Dirck) Biggs. Dana was reared and received her education in the Tulsa community where she graduated with the Senior Class of 1967 from the Tulsa East Central High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and English from Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. In 1971, she became employed with the Stroud, Okla. Public Schools where she taught English and Journalism. She obtained her Masters of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling (Cum Laude) from Central State University, now known as the University of Central Oklahoma at Edmond, Okla. She and Carl Anthony Johns were married on August 12, 1972 in Stroud, Okla. where they made their first home. In 1978, they moved to Bartlesville where Carl was offered employment with Russ Rogers Chevrolet Co. Dana was employed by the Barnsdall Public School District until 1980, when she was employed as a Guidance Counselor with the Tri-County Vo Tech School in Bartlesville. She continued her employment with Tri County Tech until her retirement in 2007. Dana, Carl and Dana's mother moved to the Skiatook/Collinsville area following her retirement to be nearer their children and grandchildren. Dana was a member of the First Christian Church of Bartlesville; past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; the National Educators Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. She had also served on various committees at First Christian Church in Bartlesville including being Chairman of the Executive Board and as the Board Secretary. Dana loved her God and her family. Surviving are her husband, Carl A. Johns, of the home in Skiatook, Okla.; children, Aubree A. and Joe Southern, Bixby, Okla., Amber B. and Justin Preble, Tahlequah, Okla. and Alisha C. "Ali" Johns, Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Gavin and Grayce Southern; Hayden Preble and "one on the way"; her mother, Bonita (Dirck) Biggs, Skiatook, Okla.; brother, Michael F. Biggs, Catoosa, Okla.; mother-in-law, Pauline B. Johns, Stroud, Okla.; brothers-in-law, Paul Johns, Jr. and Randa, Stroud, Okla., Phil R. Johns, Stroud, Okla. and David L. Johns, Midwest City, Okla.; six nephews; four nieces and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin A. Biggs and her father-in-law, Paul Johns, Sr.
