Ellen Hamblin, the adopted Lamanite daughter of Jacob Hamblin Sr., died after stepping on a jagged chaparral stick which had been used to kill a tarantula. Although the wound was given the best of care, blood poisoning had started. Herbs were gathered and every measure was made to stop it. She was dearly loved and cared for by her Aunt Priscilla and Aunt Rachel. When she died, Aunt Rachel willingly offered to have her wedding dress made over, so she had a beautiful burial dress.
