Mitzi Karen Pettyjohn, age 78, of Marysville, Iowa, died on Thursday evening, June 15, 2017, under the care of Hospice of Pella, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on June 28, 1938 in Ada, MN to Paul and Lyla (Bulson) Wallace. She graduated from Lovilia High School. She married Clifford “Harp” Pettyjohn on May 5, 1956. They were blessed with five children: Delbert, Doreen, Donald, Karen, and Mark.
Mitzi played softball for Marysville, and she was a girl scout leader for many years. She served on the Marysville City Council, and the Twin Cedar Booster Club. She loved her church family at the Crossroads Gospel Church in Attica. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and was famous for her homemade bread. She was an avid sports fan, routing on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and Minnesota Vikings. She truly enjoyed going to all for her children, and grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford “Harp” Pettyjohn of Marysville; children, Delbert Pettyjohn of Marysville, Doreen Pettyjohn and Don Carter of Flagler, Donald (Debbie) Pettyjohn of Marysville, Karen (Gary) Ballalatak of Lovilia, Mark (Wendy) Pettyjohn of Marysville; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Paulette (David) Carlson of Bussey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lyla Bulson, sister, Arlene Pettyjohn, and one granddaughter, Christina Pettyjohn.
Mitzi’s body has been cremated per her wishes. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Marysville Cemetery with Pastor Leo Freel officiating.
