Leo (Bing) Evans Jr., 93, passed away on June 10, 2017, in his home that he lovingly built 67 years ago.

Bing was born in Des Moines on February 20, 1924, to Leo and Stella (Shaw) Evans.

He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Mackin, on July 26, 1942. Bing and Gloria were married for 67 years: until her death in 2009.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He worked for Prudential Insurance Company for 30 years and enjoyed a long and active retirement gardening, tinkering, and helping everyone around him.

He is survived by a son, David Evans, of Little Rock, California, and a daughter, Mindy Branstetter, of Hancock, Vermont, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2017, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memorial Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery; reception to follow. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Park Foundation, 1110 Vermont Ave., NW, Suite 200 Washington, D.C., 20005
