John R. Ashley, age 92, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born July 12, 1924, in Corliss, WV, the son of Lovell and Nova (Sevy) Ashley.

John had worked as an electrical supervisor at Union Carbide/Elkem Metals from 1950-1986. He was a WW II U. S. Navy veteran. John was a member of Masonic Lodge #353 of Kingsville, VFW Post #943, and Loyal Order of Moose #547. He loved fishing, playing pinochle, and watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

He is survived by his children, Ann (Mark) Kelner, P. Jean (Tim) Gentile, Harvey (Becky) Ashley, John W. (Sheila) Ashley; stepchildren, French Cox, Flawn Cox, Freddie Cox, Connie Johnson, Jeff Jewell, Randy Jewell; grandchildren, Andrew (Kourtney) Kelner, Erin Kelner, Rebecca (Joel) Dalton, Melissa Henton, Deborah Olive, Ashlee McDonald, Andy Gentile, Natalie Gentile, Jen (Mike) DeMoss, Douglas Ashley, John (Jenna) Ashley, James Ashley, and Jonah Ashley; and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Anna Stewart, Frank Ashley, Harvey Ashley, Leona Bays, Milton Ashley; and wives, Clara Shinault, Jean Jewell, and Helen Cox.

Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Pentecostal Church of God, 2221 Cook Road, Ashtabula, OH. Service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Roberts officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Edgewood Cemetery, State Road, Ashtabula, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve. The family offers special thanks to Hospice caregivers, Lynn, Jenny, and Heidi.
