Larry passed away at his home in Edgewood on May 3, 2011. David Lawrence “Larry” Hooks was born January 29, 1956 in Wills Point, Texas to Robert Alex Hooks and Cynthia Louise Gready Hooks. He was raised in Edgewood where he attended school all twelve years. Larry was a gifted athlete and he achieved many accomplishments and received many honors during his high school years. He was quarterback of the football team and held the rushing record for many years with a 350 yard performance. He was also named to the Tyler Morning News Honor Roll several times during his football career and was named Outstanding Back two consecutive years. He went to State all four years of high school as a member of the EHS golf team, earning many individual medalist awards throughout those years. Larry was an outstanding basketball player as well.

After graduation in 1974, he attended North Texas State University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He transferred two years later to East Texas State University where he earned his BBA in Marketing. After graduation, Larry began a 15 year career as a Landman. He also was a long haul truck driver for J.B. Hunt and Schneider.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Gready Hooks, brothers, Bobby and Ronnie, and grandparents, Alex and Inez Hooks and Lawrence and Louise Gready.
