Robert's remains were discovered in 2002 and recovered in 2003. His remains were identified in 2006. He is now interred here in a group burial at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Philippines with a "Rosette" in front of his name to signify that his remains were recovered.

Robert served as a Corporal & Radio Operator on B-24D "Mr. Five By Five" #42-40505, 360th Service Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Parke County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 28, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-40505 took off from Nadzab Airfield (No. 1) on a local training flight bound for Port Moresby. They encountered a thunderstorm and went missing in the Nadzab area during the war.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

After his remains were recovered his status was changed to "Killed In Action".
