Jacob has been reported to be buried in a Fort Hill cemetery. This location may be near Barrackvlle, Marion Co, WV.

Jacob Straight was among a total of three people killed (maybe four) during an Indian raid/capture beginning on 6 Oct 1786.

Many different versions of the events have been handed down and even published. It seems that each family line reports a slightly different version.

It is known that Jacob and his friend (possibly brother-in-law) Nicholas Wood(s) were both killed during the initial Indian attack.

The Indians captured and began to remove Mrs Elizabeth 'Betsy' Dragoo and two (or one) of her children. One may have been an infant (possibly John) but the other was her older son named William, who was maybe sixteen years old.

During the trip the baby (if present) began to cry and one of the captures killed the infant - perhaps by bashing his head into a tree or rock. During the journey to the Indian village, the stolen horse stumbled or threw Mrs Dragoo who was injured. The Indians determined that she was too hurt to continue. They killed her and moved on.

Another story is that the party stopped to burn down a cabin. It was here that Mrs Dragoo was injured and subsequently killed. Regardless, the area where Mrs Dragoo's body was found is known as Betsy's Run.

William was taken to an Indian camp across the Ohio River. He remained there for some time and 22 years later returned for a while. That's a story in itself.

He was then known as 'Indian Billy Dragoo' or 'Indian Bill Dragoo'.
