John "Sonny" & Mary Castle

John “Sonny” Castle & Mary Helen (Pugsley) Castle, of Pana, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Sonny was born March 14, 1928 to John & Katherine (Koch) Castle. Mary was born August 19, 1927 to Ivory Mathias & Emma (Hart) Pugsley.
When Sonny was in the 8th grade, the Castles’ moved to Pana from Portage, WI. They moved across the street from the Pugsley’s. Mary lived her entire life in Pana…the West end. Sonny & Mary began “courting” in the 8th grade and they were together until they passed away. Sonny & Mary both graduated from Pana Township High School in 1945. They never missed a class reunion and enjoyed seeing old friends at each one. Sonny was past owner of Castle Concrete Construction, Inc., which continues today with the 5th generation of the Castle family.
The family always said “Dad’s hobby was work and a little golf.” He was also a member of the Pana Masonic Lodge AF&AM #226. Both Sonny & Mary were members of the First United Methodist Church, Pana.
They are survived by daughter, Bridget (Randy) Floyd, Pana, IL; son, Tim (Suzi) Castle, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Emily (Heath) Standerfer, Wes (Randi) Castle, & Tyler (Calee) Castle; great grandchildren: Adyson Standerfer, Jett Castle, Corbin Castle, Cruz Castle, & Hudson Castle; and Sonny’s sisters, Katherine (W.C.) Beyers, Pana, IL & Diana (Gary) Dooley, Vandalia, IL. They were preceded by Sonny’s sister, Juanita Kerr and brothers, David Castle & Herb (Nell) Castle and Mary’s sister, Betty (Delbert) Russell and brothers, Bob (Carletta) Pugsley & Joe (Mary) Pugsley.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Amanda Richards officiating. Sonny & Mary will be laid to rest on their 70th wedding anniversary in Mound Cemetery, Pana. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church with Masonic Rites for Sonny by the Pana Masonic Lodge AF&AM #226.
