Dorothy Elizabeth (Larsen) Elder, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Shady Cove, Oregon on Saturday, January 14, 2017. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho to James and Lila (Henson) Larsen, both deceased. When Dorothy was a child her mother remarried Alfred Elder, whom Dorothy affectionately called “Pop” and who legally adopted her and her siblings.

She moved with her family to Germany after WWII, where Alfred worked for the Army Corp of Engineers, then settled in Southern Oregon in time to attend Prospect High School her senior year in 1947-48.

Dorothy married Russell G. Elder in 1948 and moved to Trail, Oregon until, in 1953, they purchased land and built a home in Shady Cove with lumber from the family mill. She remained in that home she loved the rest of her life.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing clothes and making stuffed toys, and more than anything, raising her six children. She attended Trail Community Church for sixty years, and quietly served her Heavenly Father by teaching Child Evangelism classes, making crafts with children at Vacation Bible School, supporting missionaries, serving as church secretary, but mostly by loving those around her, and by exemplifying patience, humor, kindness, humility, and faith during the happy times as well as the hard times. She was treasured by her children and their families, who will never forget the gentle example she set for them.

Dorothy is survived by five children, Gary, Steven, Lori, Scott, and Keith; by ten grandchildren and by many loving great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Rusty, her sister Carole and brothers James and William.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Trail Community Church, 399 Old Trail Creek Rd, Trail, OR. Memorial contributions may be made to Trail Community Church. Arrangements are being handled by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors.
