Carpenter born in Kirikee, Glenmalure, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow to Christopher Yeates and Mary Gafney. He made this cross for the family grave in Glendalough. He was involved in the Gaelic League, Sinn Fein and Fianna Fáil, Rathdrum District Council and the Board of Guardians for Rathdrum. He took many nurse children from the workhouse in Rathdrum and reared them as did his mother Mary Gafney. He is also remembered for the upkeep of Greenane Church and "came down in all classes of weather to the church to repair anything he saw amiss with it."
