Our time has been tasked with the bittersweet watch of witnessing the end of a great generation - one many would argue the greatest generation. A generation of men and women forged in the hardships of The Great Depression and tempered by the horrors of a devastating World War. A generation of men and women who answered a nation’s call at home and abroad, and embraced the challenges of hard work and self-sacrifice not as misfortunes, but rather as noble ideals. A generation of men and women who lived lives of humility in the shadows of their tremendous achievements. A generation of Americans who turned a nation’s darkest hour into one of history’s brightest moments. Roy Louis Beaugh was born of that generation.
Roy Beaugh passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on the evening of April 30, 2016, at Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. A resident of Baton Rouge, Roy was born on January 24, 1920, in Church Point, LA. After graduating from Church Point High School, he proudly served his country during World War II, as a pilot in the Army Air Corps, flying anti-submarine patrol off the west coast. Upon returning home after the war, Roy enjoyed a long and successful career in the automotive industry. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, serving as financial secretary for Council 2504. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa D. Beaugh; daughters, Janet Beaugh and Cheryl B. Rabb (Jim); son, Richard Beaugh (Katie); grandchildren, Ginny R. Sentell (John), Jamie R. Choppin (Neal), Rece and Presley Beaugh and one great grandchild, Jack Sentell. He is also survived by his brother, J. Harold Beaugh (Juanita) of Church Point, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Anna Mae Beaugh; sisters, Ruby B. Segar, Cecile B. Camel, Beatrice Beaugh, Mildred B. Bellard and one brother, P. Aaron Beaugh.
Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home, 219 N. Broadway St., Church Point, LA, on Tuesday, May 3 beginning at 10:00 am with a rosary at 1:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery, Church Point, LA.
Rest in peace our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
