Musician. Born in Leeds, England, he was a lead guitarist best known for being a member of the popular British band, Herman's Hermits. In 1963, he was performing in local bands when he paired up with singer Peter Noone and formed the group The Heartbeats. The band was signed to EMI Records and Noone was renamed Herman after a television cartoon character he resembled resulting in the group being called Herman's Hermits. Their first single "I'm Into Something Good" was a hit, topping the charts for two weeks in 1964. With the success of their first recording, they were a popular touring act playing such follow hits as "Mrs Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" and "No Milk Today" to hordes of insatiable pop nostalgia fans. In 1970, they enjoyed their last hit "Lady Barbara" before they disbanded. In 1973, the band got back together for a reunion concert at Madison Square Garden, New York. Leckenby continued to perform with various groups until his death from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
