Glen Keith Taylor,of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away on Sunday June 11, 2017 at the Portneuf Medical Center at the age of 93.
He was born November 5, 1923 to Glen and Ruby Ann Johnson Taylor at Treasureton, ID at his Grandmother Johnson homestead. He was the second of eight children, six brothers and 2 sisters.
He was raised on the family farm in the hills of Stockton, ID east of Swan Lake. He attended grade school in Stockton and 2 years of high school in Preston, ID.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Aircore as a Flight Officer, in World War II, and trained 2 years as B-17 flight engineering training the aircrews for combat service.
He married Enid Nelson, June 24, 1942, they were blessed with one child, Rex Taylor. They were later divorced. He married Onda May Porter on December 11, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with three children Gene Keith, Sandee May, Ricky Porter. He has 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and one on the way.
He had many different occupations as construction worker, mechanic, and a salesman. He loved horses and spent many hours training and riding his horses. He resided in Preston, Salt Lake, Idaho Falls, Pocatello and had resided in Thomas, Idaho for 48 years. He owned 20 acres and raised cattle, until he retired and later sold his acreage. After retirement he bought a backhoe and did a lot of backhoe work mostly for a hobby around the community. He was a hard worker. He loved going to Selway, elk hunting, in the fall. He also enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends. He was an accomplished welder and made different things with horseshoes. He was basically able to repair almost anything.
He enjoyed going on trips with his wife of 63 years. They loved riding their horses in the mountains always doing things together. Later in life, he retired his horse and traded in for an ATV. He also liked to ride snowmobiles, fishing and camping.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. He served in a bishopric, MIA (YM), High Priest teacher, Sunday School teacher, and was a faithful home teacher up until the last week of his life. He and his wife served 1 year at the Bishops Storehouse in Blackfoot.
He is survived by his wife, Onda Porter Taylor; sons, Rex (Vickie) Taylor, Austin, TX, Gene (Dena) Taylor, Pingree, Sandee (Curtice) Mathews, Thomas, Rick (RaNae) Taylor, Shelley; 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; two brothers, Thayne (Carol) Taylor, Rupert, ID and Bryce Taylor, Kimberly, ID.
He was preceded in death by 1 great grandchild, Ryker Keith Taylor, parents, siblings, Donald L. Taylor, Velma Fish, Lorraine Lundberg, Dallas Taylor and Sherman Taylor.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Thomas LDS Church.
The family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho and from 10-10:45 at the church.
Burial will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
