Political Figure. He started his political life by forming the Penn Hills (PA) Taxpayers League in the 1960's while working as a community activist. In 1971, he was elected Commissioner of the 9th Ward (Pittsburgh) and later, Councilman at Large in Penn Hills (PA). He was a State Senator in Pennsylvania, representing the 44th District from 1979 until 1995. He was a political moderate who was a Republican until 1992, when he had a falling out with the Republican Party leaders and switched his registration to Democrat. He retired in 1995, having chosen not to run for re-election.
