Robert Nathaniel Smith was born in November of 1848 at Hicks Run, PA to Peter B Smith and Elizabeth Hare.

Funeral services were conducted from the Lauer Undertaking parlors Saturday afternoon for Robert Nathaniel Smith who died at the Lock Haven hospital on Wednesday evening, of senile pneumonia, aged 75 years. Deceased was born at Hicks Run, Cameron county and came to this city when an infant, where he has since resided. He was the tallest man in town, and was a son of the late Peter B. Smith, at one time sheriff of Clinton County, and for years proprietor of the Eagle hotel. Deceased was a woodsman, rafting, and driving logs on the river, and later lumbering in the woods.
He leaves a brother, A. Dent Smith of Williamsport. The services were in charge of the Rev. Edward Jackson. Interment was made in Dunnstown cemetery.
