Birzavith Hopkins appears (listed as a child of Caleb Hopkins) in "John Hopkins of Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1634, and Some of His Descendants" by Timothy Hopkins. 1932, page 138. His information is as follows:

"Birzavith or Bezewith, b 16 December 1766, married at New Hartford, Connecticut,16 February 1791, Phebe Payne, daughter of William Payne b at New Haven , 10 September 1728 ('Descendants of William Payne of New Haven', New Haven Gen. Mag. [October 1929]pp.1381,1879. Of Berlin in 1799, when he was witness to a deed given by his brother Lebbeus."

His father Caleb Hopkins appears Ibid, pg 137 as follows:

"Caleb Hopkins was born at Farmington, Connecticut, on 23 January 1739. He married 21 February, 1765, Mehitable (Mabel) Scovil, born at Saybrook, Connecticut, in 1746, daughter of William Scovil, born at Middletown, 15 March 1705-1706, and Ruth (perhaps Ruth Webb, of Saybrook). He died 1820 at Pompey, New York. She died 30 October 1830, at Springfield, Massachusetts. (Springfield Records)...... The records of the church at Farmington show that he was admitted to full communion 3 August 1766, and his children are there recorded....and he was of the town of Pompey when he made his Will 1 February 1820. (Onondaga County Probate Records, C, pg 119."

His grandfather Joseph Hopkins appears Ibid, pp 54-55 as follows:

"Joseph, b at Hartford, 1707: bapt. 1710-11, m at Farmington, Connecticut, 25 April 1733, Elizabeth Galpin, b at Middletown 12 December 1714; daughter of Caleb and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Galpin. (Middletown Connecticut Records) He died 1 May 1784. She died 13 January 1797. (Kensington Connecticut Church). Caleb Galpin made his Will 12 June 1746, which was probated 5 November 1753. (Peck Family, 1868, pg 368). He died in Hartford 3 November, 1712. She married 3 December 1713, (2) John Porter of Kensington. . . ."

His 2nd great grandfather Stephen Hopkins appears Ibid, page 11 as follows:

She died 13 May, 1697. We do not definitely know the date and place of birth of Stephen Hopkins. He married before 4 March 1657, for on that date Governor Winthrop records that he treated his wife (MS "Winthrop Medical Journal"). Assuming that he was married about that time and that he was then 21 years of age, he may have been born at Hartford after his parents removal there in 1636. . . .The Will of Stephen Hopkins was dated 28 September 1689, and proved 6 November, 1689, and inventoried 591 pounds-09 shillings-and 06 pence. (Connecticut Probate Records, 5:16,17,18; Manwaring's Digest, 1:470)".

His 3rd great grandfather is John Hopkins of Cambridge, Massachusetts---who is the same John Hopkins, a first settler and founder of Hartford, Connecticut, and who appears Ibid, pages 1, 4, 5, 6, and throughout the entire preface.

It is stated ". . .it was at Newtown (Cambridge) that he made his first appearance in America, 4 August 1634, when he received a grant of 4 acres of land, followed by others in the same year, and more in 1635. (Town and Proprietors' Records of Cambridge.) . . .John was an original proprietor of Hartford in 1636. . . Our knowledge of the family of John Hopkins derives from his Will, dated 1 January 1648-49, in which he mentions his wife, Jane, a daughter Bethiah, and a son Stephen--the children being under the legal ages of 18 and 21 respectively. . ."

A little more about Birzavith, himself as an individual: He is listed as the Constable of the town of Cazenova, Madison, New York in 1812. And it is mentioned that on the 1810 US Census he had a family of nine. ("Names and Sketches of Pioneer Settlers of Madison County New York" by William H Tuttle. Edited by Isabel Bracey. Heart of the Lakes Publishing: Interlaken, New York. p 123 [found in the Orange County Genealogical Society, 1985, Huntington Beach, CA]).
