Sherry Michelle Barker, 65, of Galion, passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2017. She was born December 8, 1951, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Floyd Eldon and Elnora Caroline (Long) Dilley.

Sherry retired from Richland Hospital where she worked as a Diagnostic Service Coordinator. She was also a certified phlebotomist. Her compassion for others was a perfect fit for her career. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was a very proud Grandma. After her children were grown, her canine companions became her children and she loved them deeply. An appreciation for classical music and love of the Phantom of the Opera brought her many joyous moments. Tending to her gardens was a favorite way to pass her time.

Sherry is survived by her two beloved sons, Johnny Ray (Kristy) Barker of Twin Lakes, WI, and Wesley Barker; two treasured grandchildren, Colby Ray Barker and Christine N. Burgess (Brian Slone); and two adorable great-grandchildren, Conner and Carson. She is also survived by three sisters, Kay Traxler, Garnet Jeffries and Nora Ernsberger, all of Mansfield; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Barker family; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Rita Reese.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Ray” Barker on April 24, 2005; a sister, Jane Shrewsberry; a brother, Calvin (Ruth) Hardman; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Dilley, Gene Traxler and Robert “Buck” Jeffries.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. O. Douglas Tackett will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Shauck Cemetery, Johnsville, Ohio.
