John J. Timmons of Liverpool passed away on Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was the son of the late Claude and Mary Ellen (Flavin) Timmons. He graduated from Eastwood High School and OCC. John joined the Syracuse Police Department in 1958 and retired in 1992 as Captain of the Patrol Division. He was honored with the Medal of Valor in 1959. John was a member of the Syracuse PBA, Fraternal Order of Police and the Knights of Columbus. John was predeceased by a daughter Julia Louise. Surviving are his wife, Angeline of 60 years, children, Matthew (Ruth), Joseph (Jennifer), Anna (Thomas) Pastore, Mary (Matthew) Bashore, a sister Kathleen Pyatak, treasured grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick (Christine), Isabella, John and Harold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Tuesday June 13, 2017 in the Franciscan Church of the Assumption, 812 North Salina St., Syracuse. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. There are no calling hours.Maurer Funeral Home, Liverpool has arrangements
