Young Sparta resident Died in Auto Crash

A Sparta resident, Eldon Gideon, 24, was fatally injured early Sunday morning in a one-car accident which occurred four miles north of Sparta on Hwy. 125. Gideon's southbound vehicle apparently missed a curve and struck an embankment, throwing him into the windshield. He died of loss of blood and head injuries. The wrecked car and Gideon's body were not discovered until 8:30 a.m. by a neighboring farmer. Coroner Dean Harris was called to the scene. A member of Chadwick Pentecostal Church, Mr. Gideon serviced in the US Army six years, about half of that time in Germany. He had just began working at Fasco's Inc. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Lester F. Gideon of Ozark, four brothers, Ronald of Grand Junction, Colo., Jerry with the US Navy on the USS Camden, Robert of Chadwick and Dean of Ozark; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Payne and Mrs. Mona Shipman of Sparta and Mrs. Kathleen Gilbert of Olfield; three half-brothers, Jimmy, Ray and Larry of Ozark; and two half- sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ann Pruitt of Ozark and Shirly Jean Gideon of Sparta. Along with many nieces and nephews and family members and friends. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today in the Harris Chapel at Ozark with Rev.Charles Shipman officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery near Sparta.
