Per his obituary, Bob graduated from Roseville High School in 1945. He served in the US Coast Guard as a pharmacist mate during World War II. In 1948 he graduated from Placer College where he was active in football and student government. He then attended UC Berkeley where, in 1950, he earned his BS degree in Physiology. He returned to Roseville and entered the family business, Mahan's Furniture and Appliances. He married Gloria Zerbe in August 1950, and they made their home in Roseville. In 1955 Bob first became involved in local politics, serving on the Roseville City School Board and then the Roseville Chamber of Commerce. He was mayor of Roseville and a Placer County Supervisor. In 1976 he opened Roseville Liquors which the family ran for 20 years. Bob retired in 1992, and recently a 10-acre park in Roseville was dedicated in Bob's honor for his 37 years of public service. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers John, Tom, and David. Survived by his wife Gloria, daughters Shauna and Kathleen, son Robert Jr., as well as 8 grandchildren.
