Thomas Jefferson Smith was born September 6, 1840 to Reddick Smith and Mary Ann Clark Smith in Barbour, Alabama, USA.

Tom moved to Jasper, Mississippi, USA, early in life and, upon the commencement of the Civil War, volunteered for service. He was in Company A, 7th Mississippi Regiment. On December 16, 1864, he was captured at Nashville, Tennessee and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio and, in 1865, had been moved to New Orleans, then to Vicksburg. He was paroled, some time during 1865.

Later that same year, he met and married Sarah Margret Mixon on October 15, 1865. They were blessed with the following children this researcher has found, to-date:

- Martha M. Smith

- John B. W. Smith
m. Mary Ann Whitt

- Mary Ella Smith

- Sidney Meek Smith
m. Rossie Frances Hicks

- Nancy Gabrella Smith
m. James F. Runyan

- Margret Thomas Smith

- James R. Smith

Tom & Nancy lived in Mississippi in their early marriage, then relocated to Columbia, Arkansas, USA, in January 1871.

I have found referenced information, that has not been confirmed, stating Tom passed away around 1926 in Columbia, Arkansas, USA. I will update this memorial, once this information has been confirmed.

Rest In Peace, Tom.
