Gary L. Townsend, 70, of LaGrange, Missouri, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday (June 8, 2017) in his home.

Born September 22, 1946 in Pittsburg, Kansas, Gary was the son of Willard G. and Bertha L. Shipman Townsend. He was married to Anita Hill who preceded him in death. Gary then shared his life with Gloria Burbridge who survives.

Gary was an avid reader who loved watching football, especially his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs. Gary loved having pet dogs and when he was younger he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Gary began his career at Quincy Compressor and later moved to Can Am which became Titan Wheel where he worked for over 28 years, retiring in 2012.

Survivors include his companion, Gloria Burbridge of LaGrange, MO; his sister, Tonia Schnepf of Quincy; five step children, David Burbridge (Teresa) of LaGrange, MO, Arron Burbridge (Shelly) of Canton, MO, Gena Hills of LaGrange, MO, Brandy Hill of Quincy and Brian Hill of Edwardsville, IL; nine step grandchildren, Kaleigh Burbridge, Tegan Burbridge, Evan Burbridge, Ian Burbridge, Alexis Hills, Whitney Hills, Gauge Hills Gabriella Hill and Amelia Hill; a niece, Tracy Brown (Scott) of Liberty, IL; a nephew, Jared Schnepf of Quincy; and two great nephews, Cole Brown and Riley Howser.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita; a brother, Kevin Townsend; a niece, Tamara Schnepf; and a nephew, Jerry Schnepf.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Paul Milliken officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
