He was a long time member of Gateway Baptist Church and was retired from The Department of Juvenile Justice after many years of service.
Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son, Richard Joseph Whitlock and his brother, Paul W. Whitlock.
He was a loving father and is survived by his loving wife, Peggy L. Whitlock of Irmo, SC; sister, Kathryn Rimer of Coweta, OK; son, Robert K. "Rob" Whitlock, II (Sherri) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Penny Sue Hurley (Joe) of Guthrie, OK; son, Charles Benton "Ben" Whitlock (Sheryl) of Columbia, SC; step-son, James "Jimmy" Eckstein of Johnstown, PA; step-daughter, Sue Frank Eckstein of Canon Beach, OR; step-son, Mark Eckstein of Charleston, SC; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Temples Halloran Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. The Reverend Don Brock will officiate. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
