Mrs. Eula May Payne, 63, of Sparta, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, after becoming ill while visiting her daughter in Willard Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Payne was a lifelong resident of Christian County band a member of Sparta Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Orval Payne; five sons, Floyd Payne and his wife Betty, of Sparta, Lloyd Payne and his wife Janet of Ozark, Glen Payne of Sparta, Leonard Payne and his wife Joann of Sparta, and Donnie Payne of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Joretta Gray and husband Junior of Willard; a brother, Miles Brannun of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Faye Rose of Escalon, Calif.; her father, James P. Brannun of Tontitown, Ark.; a half-sister, Mrs. Dorothy Crow of Tontitown, Ark.; two step-sisters, Mrs. Elsie Freidenberger of La Junta, Colo. and Mrs. Gladys Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren. Preceding Mrs. Payne in death were, her mother, Ida Bell Cannon Brannun; two grandsons, Steve Payne and Jason Paul Payne. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sparta Baptist Church with the Rev. James Applegate officiating. Burial was in Sparta Cemetery under direction of Harris.
