Matthew “Matt” William Russell, 30, of Newberry passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 15, 2017. He was born May 21, 1986 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Brent and Jana Richardson Russell. He spent five years doing what he loved as a 911 dispatcher for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. He loved his family and always put everyone before himself, and went out of his way to help others. He loved the outdoors and wanted to make sure the jeep went with him. His daughter was his world.
Matt is survived by his wife, Courtney Russell; parents, Brent and Jana Russell; maternal grandmother, Grandma Richardson; daughter, Aubrey Russell; brother, Anthony “Tony” Russell, and Tyler Shepherd, who was like a brother.
A Celebration of Life service for Matt will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
