Funeral services for Ben Elise Dyer, 90, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Tommy Phillips and Larry McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow at Dodson Chapel Cemetery in Overton County.

The family will receive friends Friday 5:00-8:00 PM and Saturday 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Ms. Dyer passed away peacefully Tuesday evening June 6, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was born on November 2, 1926 in Overton County to the late Raleigh John Thompson and Lou Minnie Boatman Thompson.

Ben loved her flower gardens and grew the most beautiful roses. She was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and enthusiastically cheered them on for decades. In recent years, Ben’s favorite pastime was observing the wildlife around her home, especially her rabbits. Many will remember her from her times at Alva Hall’s Grocery and Sammie’s Florist.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Thompson Hargis and her husband John; son, Zeke Thompson and his wife Linda; son, Thurman Haston; granddaughter, Patricia Hargis (David Speight); grandsons, Butch Thompson (Karen), David Hargis, John Thompson; sister, Emogene Ritchison; sister-in-law, Reba Thompson; six great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her brothers, Willie Heron Thompson, John Howard Thompson, Edward Thompson; and sisters, Alba Reid, Clara Barnes, Arkie Hammers, Cloa Judd, and Anna Dell Presnell.

The family of Ben Dyer wishes to thank Rachel and Denise who brightened her last few months.
