Born in Garrard County, she was a native of Casey County for many years, she married but was divorced from Stanley Thompson. She had two sons, one of whom predeceased her, along with her parents and two sisters, Annie nee Brown Egbert and infant half sister Maudeen Branson. Mildred was a very feisty woman, but with a blessed heart for her family.

Her middle name was after her aunt Marie on her paternal side.
