A 31-year-old Bogalusa woman was killed Thursday (June 8) when her vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler as she attempted to make a U-turn on Louisiana 21 in Washington Parish. Jacquelyn Nicole Edwards died at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond a short time after the 8:30 a.m. accident, Louisiana State Police reported.

An initial investigation by state police determined that Edwards was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Louisiana 21 north of Louisiana 10 when she pulled onto the right shoulder to make a U-turn. As she re-entered the highway, her vehicle was hit on the driver's side by a truck driven by Carnell Williams Jr., 50-, of Prentiss, Miss., police said.

Edwards sustained critical injuries despite being properly restrained. Acadian Ambulance transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead by doctors shortly after her arrival, state police reported in a news release.

Williams, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured. He agreed to a breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present. Impairment is not suspected to have contributed to the accident, blood samples were collected from Edwards as part of the investigation, police said.
