Funeral services for John W. "Jack" Preston, Jr., 70, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene with interment in Woodridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 901 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29210.

Mr. Preston was born February 11, 1947 in Sussex, NJ and passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017. He was the son of the late, John W. Preston, Sr. and Edith Dickert Preston.

Jack attended the University of South Carolina from 1965-1970 earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and later his Masters in Engineering. In 1975 he earned a Certificate from the Environmental Management Institute and from 1977-1997 earning his Master of Science degree in Engineering.

He volunteered as minister of music at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene for 25 years. He was awarded Outstanding Young Men of America in 1983. He worked at DHEC prior to working for SCANA Corp. as a Chemical Engineer and Director of Environmental Services. He retired after 30 years of service from SCANA.

Mr. Preston is survived by his wife, Claudia S. Preston; son, Jay Preston (Beth); daughter, Jamie Preston all of Lexington; brothers, Jim Preston (Mary) of Greer and Jerry Preston of San Antonio.

Jack was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His love for others was a direct reflection of his love and devotion to his Lord. He committed himself fully to the Lord's work, and his deep love and giftedness in music made an eternal difference in others' lives. Jack always led with gentleness and kindness, whether it was his family, his colleagues, or fellow musicians. His smile constantly encouraged, and his warm hugs reminded everyone they were loved. His words were filled with wisdom and truth and were spoken in humility, considering others before himself. In all ways, through his words and actions, Jack pointed others to Jesus.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Korrapati and staff at Lexington Oncology Associates for their love, comfort and excellent care during this time.
