MERCER, Michael E., 56, of North Chesterfield, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 4, 2017. His passing was sudden and unexpected. He was preceded in death by his uncle and adopted father, Archie L. Bryant; and his sister, Kathleen M. Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda W. Mercer; his sons, M. Benjamin Mercer (Amanda) and Christopher B. Mercer (fiancee, Hannah). He is also survived by his aunt and adopted mother, June C. Bryant; his brother, Karl E. Mercer (Donna); his sister, Carole L. Russell; and his brother-in-law, Wayne E. Smith. He was a devoted husband, father, son and friend. Among his many talents, he was a gifted cabinetmaker, craftsman and sports coach. He was dearly loved by his family and all who knew him. He enjoyed great success in his more than 35-year retail management career. He was most recently a DSD Consumables Manager for the Rite Aid Corporation. In addition to his career, he was instrumental in the success and growth of his family's business, Black Car Richmond, where he served as a corporate director. He will forever be in our memory and our hearts. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. A celebration of his life will be held at West End Assembly of God located at 401 N. Parham Road on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Vessels of Mercy International or Ramsey Memorial UMC, Building Fund.
