"Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 1929, after a lingering illness of three years death claimed a highly respected citizen of Sharon Springs in the person of Charles G. Slingerland. Mr. Slingerland was born on a farm near Carlisle, May 20, 1866 and lived there and at Sloansville for forty years until he sold his farm and moved to Worcester where for a few years he conducted a thriving grocery business. He then moved to Oneonta where he became a partner in a wholesale coal business. Eleven years ago he came to Sharon Springs and was engaged in the feed business until his health gave out and he was compelled to retire. Mr. Slingerland was active in Fraternal Organizations and was a Past Master of Sharon Springs Lodge, No. 621, F. & A. M. He leaves beside his wife, Hattie Gordon Slingerland, two daughters, Miss Jessie R. Slingerland, teacher in the Public schools of Nutley, N.J., and Mrs. Lewis J. Lipe of Sharon Springs. His funeral services were held Friday, June 7, at his late residence, the Rev. C. L. Herrick of Worcester, officiating. Interment was in the Sloansville Valley Cemetery with full Masonic honors accorded him at the grave. The profuse display of flowers showed the loving esteem in which he was held by his family and fellow men." [The Cobleskill Index (Cobleskill, NY), June 13, 1929, Page 8]
