According to her and her husband's family Bible, "Thomas H. Butler and Sarah Ann Holford were married 14 April 1853 and their issue are Lizzie Loucetta, John Franklin, Bowen Butler, George Grundy, Martha ["Mattie"] Jane, Dixie, Rosa Lee, Thomas Harvey [Jr.], and James Wash, Sam Stone."

Mrs. Sarah Ann Butler, widow of the late Thomas Harvey Butler, died in the home of Mr. Jack Apple [her sister Mary's late husband], near Granville, Tuesday morning [16 January 1900], after a long and painful illness of several months. She was a most estimable lady and many friends will mourn her departure. She was 66 years of age, and the oldest member of the M.E. Church at this place. She leaves five children living: B.A. Butler of Gainesboro, Thomas and Samuel Butler of Nashville, Miss Mattie Butler and Mrs. W.E. Ragland [Rosa Lee] of Granville. The remains were brought to Gainesboro Tuesday and interred Wednesday evening at the cemetery near town. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. T.A. Carden [his memorial?] and J.L. Smothermon [Smotherman?].
