Mr. Thornton, member of the First Methodist church, had spent a large part of his life as forester and had served in state posts in both Arkansas and Louisiana. He resided for many years in El Dorado and since he retired he had made Monroe his home.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Paula Thornton; a daughter, Miss Paula Mae Thornton, a nurse here; and four sons, Earl, Huttig, Ark.; M. E. of Lumberton, N.C., and Ernest Thornton, Bolton, N.C.
