Gene owned and operated Briggs Janitorial Services in Meriden CT and also worked for both Pratt & Whitney and Pye & Hogan Machine Shop as a machinist. Gene married Elaine Ritchie on December 8, 1954, and together they raised their three children. Once retired he and Elaine moved back "home" to Littleton and he kept busy by working in the Garden Center at Walmart. He was a great Dad, Granddad and a wonderful loving, devoted husband. Gene was an accomplished musician, a trait that he passed on to his grandchildren.
Besides his wife of Littleton, he is survived by his two daughters, Wanda Briggs Bourgoin (Donald) of Torrington, CT, and Wendy Paradis (Victor) of New Hartford, CT; grandchildren, Kristin Foster of Salem, CT, Melissa Sangster and Tracy Gieco, both of Torrington, CT, Chelsea Briggs and Allison Briggs both of Meriden, CT, Kimberly Gray of Plainsville, CT, Kathryn Balavender of Naples, FL, Kelly Graff of New Hartford, CT, Kristy Cordwell of Plainsville, CT, Karyn Paradis of Block Island, RI, and Kyle Paradis of Ft. Benning, GA; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, SPF Gene G. Briggs Jr.; his brothers, William, Forrest, Frederick and Ronald and sister, Arlene Tracy.
Friends may call 10-11 a.m. on Sunday, June 11th at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. with his son-in-law, Rev. Victor Paradis officiating.
