After completing his primary education Sonny went into the military at the young age of 16, where he fought in the Korean War. After being Honorably Discharged, he remained in San Diego, CA. where he met and married Sandra Bolden. Two children were brought into this union.
Sonny and Sandra relocated to Santa Ana, CA in the late 60’s and from then his love of baseball began. Sonny coached Little League for 30+ years. Sonny was the first coach to both of his children as well as the coach to a host of nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Over the years his employment included the City of Chula, delivering furniture, which led him to becoming a master craftsman and building furniture for family and friends. He later started his own business “Perryman and Son” Janitorial Service with his last client being All American Racing.
Sonny was a very hard working, outgoing, kind, caring and devoted father and grandfather. He was recognized not only by his family but also by the community for his charitable work. He received several awards and commendations by the State of California Senate, City of Santa Ana, County of Los Angeles and California Legislature Assembly. Sonny was also given a Citizen of Distinction Award by the Orange County NAACP in 2004.
Most recently and equally important as being honored by the State, Sonny was recognized for all his years of Coaching and threw the first pitch at opening ceremonies at Windsor Park, March 5th, 2016. Windsor Park is where his Coaching began with Jackson Little League.
The memories of Sonny will be forever embraced by the hearts, minds and souls of his children, Vincent Lee Perryman Sr of San Diego, CA, Stacie and Anthony Rew of Menifee, CA. Five Grandchildren, Eboni Perryman, Vinessa Perryman, Vincent Perryman Jr, Anthony Rew II and Victoria Rew. 2 great grandchildren. Brothers and Sisters include Dorothy Abbott (deceased), Eloise Boone (deceased), I.C. “Steve” Sanders Jr. (Connie) of Atlanta, GA., Bernice Cohen (Otis) of Topeka, KS, Charles “CC” Sanders of Menifee, CA, Johnny Sanders of Menifee, CA, Shirley Hall of Topeka, KS, and Wanda Johnson (Ronald) of Maricopa, AZ. A host of Nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
