Joy Elaine King, 86, passed away in Houston, Texas on June 3, 2017. She had suffered from several health issues for the past 12 years, and finally succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease. Joy was born in Daisetta, Texas on December 5, 1930 to Arnold Joseph and Mattie Hebert. She is preceded in death by her parents and daughters Caryn Elaine King and Cheryl Marie Booth and son-in-law Richard Booth.

Joy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry David King, sons Charles David King, Philip Anthony King, and Steven Andrew King (wife Tami) and daughters Colleen King-Hu (husband Sui Dong Hu) and Lisa Mittica. Also survived by sister Barbara A. Junek, two brothers A.J. Hebert Jr. (wife Pat) and Shelton Lee Hebert, and grandchildren Jennifer Erb (husband Jeff), Charles D. King Jr.(wife Lindsey), Robbie Roberts (wife Jodi), Kristi Rodriguez (husband Ben), Ethan A. King, Amber L. King, as well as several great grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Joy and David met in the 2nd and 3rd grades in elementary school, and Joy always said she decided in the 7th grade that she was going to marry David. During 68 years of marriage, she never changed her mind.

Joy loved music. She had a beautiful soprano voice, and played piano as well. She sang in the church choirs of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Luke’s for many years, and she enjoyed singing the Lord’s Prayer for numerous weddings. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. Joy also enjoyed family gatherings with her children and their families, as well as with her Cajun relatives in Louisiana.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday, June 6, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road in Houston, with visitation starting at 9:30am. A rosary will also be prayed prior to the Mass.

A reception will be held in the church social hall following the Mass. Rite of Committal will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Blessing, Texas at 11:00am Wednesday June 7.
