Fred R. Brewer, 88, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at The Grove Assisted Living Facility.

FRED REED BREWER was born December 12, 1928 in Glendale, California, the son of the late Fred Kohl Brewer and Frances Susie (Duncan) Brewer. As a young boy he moved with his family to Oregon, settling in the Gales Creek community. Fred attended Gales Creek Elementary and later Forest Grove High School, having been a graduate of the Class of 1946.

He was a Veteran of the Korean conflict, having joined the United States Navy on October 15, 1951 in Portland, Oregon. Fred served for four years, until receiving his honorable discharge on November 16, 1954 at the rank of Engineman Second Class. He then served for five years in the U.S. Navy Reserves, until October 18, 1959 when he received his discharge. Fred had received several citations including the National Defense, United Nations, Navy Occupation and China Service.

Fred was united in marriage to Lois Jean Hebron on March 24, 1957 in Forest Grove, Oregon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past March. Following their marriage they resided in the Forest Grove community, where they have resided since.

He had worked as the manager of the Chevron Service Station on the corner of Douglas and Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove. Fred served as the manager for many years, until the mid 1970's when he became a Sales Associate in Real Estate Sales. He had worked for many years for Bump and Green Real Estate in Forest Grove, which later became Coldwell Banker, until he retired.

Fred was a member of the American Legion Washington Post #2 in Forest Grove and the Forest Grove Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #2440.

Among his special interests he enjoyed cooking, fishing and woodworking, making clocks, furniture and wooden boxes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frances Brewer and his sister, Betty Niemeyer.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Brewer, of Forest Grove, Oregon; his four children and their spouses, Cyndee Jordan, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Pamela Jordan, of Longview, Washington; Aloni and Tim Smith, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Fred A. Brewer and Lorie Taylor, of Portland, Oregon.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Toni Danna, Aaron Zumwalt, Amanda Zumwalt, Julee Collins, Zachary Wirfs, Jordan Wirfs, and Nicholas Brewer, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, a niece and two nephews.
