Betty J Brunner

Surrounded by the love of her family, Betty passed peacefully in the comfort of her earthly home into her heavenly kingdom. She was a three time cancer survivor and while she couldn’t beat the 4th bout, she is now in heaven claiming the ultimate victory where cancer cannot ravage her body any more.
Betty was born to Milton and Violet (Janke) Malueg and raised in Caroline, WI, where she graduated from Marion High School in 1956 and attended UW-Stevens Point for one year before becoming a nanny in Milwaukee. She then returned to Shawano to work in the Production Credit office as a secretary. She married her husband, Tom, on July 11, 1959 and they lived on their farm in Cecil until Tom went into the army and they moved to Olympia, WA, returning to the farm when his service was done. Together they raised four children to believe that hard work together as a family makes you strong, giving back to your community teaches you that there is always someone who is undergoing more challenges than you, and keeping a sense of humor in spite of your current circumstances helps you see the rainbow of God’s promises to come.
Betty loved her home, family and to make a home for the family. She especially found pleasure in cooking for the family, especially over the holidays. She took great satisfaction in her Thanksgiving dinners when the whole family would return for her famous wild rice stuffing! Christmas brought the annual phone call for her eggnog recipe.
She also loved her dogs, raising Pomeranians for over 40 years. She was most proud of the fact she raised one special boy who ended up ranking #5 in the country through AKC. After many years she also got the pleasure of owning her special horse, Ebony, who was a gentle soul for her and the grandkids.
Betty loved spending time in her yard gardening and watching the bountiful wildlife, from deer to the birds, although the bunnies eating her flowers were not appreciated! But she was excited each spring when the season began to warm and the birds would return.
Betty was an active member of the St. Martins Catholic church choir and CCW until her health told her to slow down. She was also a 4-H leader for almost 40 years, finding joy in mentoring the youth to grow into mature, caring and considerate adults who gave back to their communities.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Violet (Janke) Malueg, and her brother, Dean. Most difficult for her was the loss of her granddaughter, Brianna Brunner, whose body was claimed by cancer at the age of 16. But her indomitable spirit lives on!
Betty is survived by her husband, Tom, and children, Brian (Phyllis) Brunner, Bruce (Vicky) Brunner, Brad (Lorie) Brunner and Terri Brunner, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, siblings Robert (Joan) Malueg, Milton (Dodie) Malueg, Dorothy (Richard) Britzke and special sister-in-law, Marcia Malueg as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Betty will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil with Rev. Luke Ferris and Deacon Mike Grezeca officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to FOCUS.org (a campus outreach that invites students into a growing relationship with Christ), St. Martins Catholic Church or Shawano County 4-H.
A special thanks to the staff at Bellin Hospital, Bellin Urology and Bellin Oncology as well as the dedicated staff of Heartland Hospice who caringly guided the family through this journey. Their care, concern and compassion were deeply felt and Betty commented many times how appreciative she was of their care.
