George was the son of Benjamin P. Grant and his wife, Fannie Farnham Grant.

George was a soldier in the Civil War.

According to the American Civil War Database:

George enlisted as a 16 year old Machinist, as a Private, on August 2, 1862 at Andover, Mass, and mustered out the same day. He was in Mass. 1st Heavy Artillery, Company H.

He re-enlisted on Jan. 2, 1864.

George died of disease on Sept. 7, 1864 City Point, Virginia, 2nd Corps. Field Hospital.
