He had six siblings: Ida Matilda Mack Heilemann (1865-1940), Minnie Catherine Mack Wenzel (b. 1868), Charles Jacob Mack (1869-1930), John Louis Mack (1875-1968), Elisabeth Marie Mack Zastrow (1877-1952) and Mary Barbara Mack Baetz (1882-1963).
As a young man, Louis moved with his parents to Franklin, Kentucky, where he met the Steger family. The Steger brothers thought that he visited so often to see them. They were very surprised when he proposed to their beautiful sister, Ida Bertha Steger.
Louis and Ida had two children, Louis Edwin Mack and Edna Sophia Mack Spayde.
As the children of German immigrants, Louis and Ida both spoke German and used the language to converse when they did not want the children to listen in.
They moved briefly to Florida before settling permanently in Chicago. Louis was multi-talented and could dig wells and repair cars.
Louis built a summer cottage in Delavan, Wisconsin in 1950 and did everything himself except for wiring the house for electricity. He spent many happy times there with his family.
